 Douglas Twitchell and Friends
When I was in sixth grade (oh so many years ago!) my parents gave me a ventriloquist puppet as a Christmas present. Of all the Christmas presents I have ever received,
that one present changed my life more than any other. I began studying and practicing ventriloquism (hours and hours spent in front of a mirror!) and before too many years
had passed, I was doing short ventriloquism shows at my church, and also at my school.
After I finished college, ventriloquism began opening doors for me to do what I'm really passionate about - preaching and teaching
the Word of God, the Gospel of Jesus Christ, and the abundant life that we can have in Christ. I have been invited to speak at churches and camps all over New England, and in New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and Quebec
as well. Puppetry even opened the doors for me to take a trip to Trelew, Argentina in 1995.
I am currently a self-employed software developer and website designer, and being self-employed gives me a great
deal of freedom in planning my calendar. Thus, I am able to spend a large portion of my summer speaking at Christian Camps, and teaching
at Vacation Bible Schools.
During the rest of the year I travel to various churches ministering in Sunday Schools and church services, using both
ventriloquism and music as a way of introducing the message from God's Word.
In my spare time, I also volunteer as the youth director at my home church (South Paris Baptist Church). I teach the teens (junior and senior high)
each Wednesday night, and try - as often as possible - to involve them in ministry. Once a month we travel to a local
nursing home and the teens help me lead a church service for the residents there. They have also worked with me in leading a
Vacation Bible School in a small, rural church that needed a lot of help running a Vacation Bible School. It is such a
blessing to be surrounded by so many eager and helpful teenagers who want to be involved in God's work!
If you are interested in having me come and share at your church, here's some information about the presentation that
I will be sharing at churches starting in September, 2006.
The Day Of Small Things
The title of this presentation comes from the minor prophets of the Old Testament; when the people complained that the new temple was so small, God asked: Who are you to despise the day of small things?
This is a two part presentation, with the first part typically used for Sunday School, and the second part for the morning worship service. Variations
on this may be possible, so please contact me with any questions you may have!
Part One: Small People
Specially designed with children in mind, but also with an important message for the adults, this part of the presentation
reminds us that we don't have to be "big" to do God's work.
Part Two: Small Gifts
In part two we focus on stories in which people gave small gifts, and God did amazingly big things with
those small gifts.
