The Only Thing

Track #9 on the CD Join The Chorus

During the weeks and months after Tommy's death, the words of this song kept coming back to me. The song contains one of my favorite verses from the book of Ecclesiastes, which you find at the end of the lyrics below.

It is better to go to a funeral than to a party, because we all end up dead, and those who come to terms with that will be better prepared to live life!

Listen to a short audio clip

The Only Thing
Running on in terror from the day of our demise,
On the treadmill of life's sorrows each day swiftly flies.
In all our sorrows, we're seeking a reason;
We're grasping straws, seeking hope for a season,
Knowing death drives onward like a runaway train,
And will crush us some dread day with sorrow and with pain.

The only thing in life worth living for is
The only thing in life worth dying for is
The only One who took my death so I could
Come die with Him and live forever.

Hanging on a cross that He had lived His whole life for,
Having found a reason that was worth dying for.
In all the world you are His reason;
His death required by your own treason.
In His death He's calling "Take your cross and follow Me
Lose your life and die with me and live eternally."

Better to go to a house of mourning
Than to go to a house of feasting
For death is the end of every man,
The living should take this to heart.
