There Is A Land

Track #1 on the CD Join The Chorus

This song comes from a poem by one of my favorite hymn writers - Isaac Watts. Watts compares the Jordan River to death - a barrier which lies between us and the promised land we desire to reach.

I love to think of our friend Tommy in this wonderful land of pure delight. There he awaits us in the presence of God, singing an eternal chorus of praise to God.

Listen to a short audio clip

There Is A Land Of Pure Delight
There is a land of pure delight, Where saints immortal reign,
Infinite day excludes the night, And pleasures banish pain.

There everlasting spring abides, And never withering flowers:
Death, like a narrow sea, divides This heavenly land from ours.

Sweet fields beyond the swelling flood Stand dressed in living green:
So to the Jews old Canaan stood, While Jordan rolled between.

But timorous mortals start and shrink To cross this narrow sea;
And linger, shivering on the bank, And fear to launch away.

O could we make our doubts remove, Those gloomy doubts that rise,
And see the Canaan that we love With unbeclouded eyes!

Could we but climb where Moses stood, And view the landscape o’er,
Not Jordan’s stream, nor death’s cold flood, Should fright us from that shore.

I Want
The things we want out of life and the things God wants for our lives don't always coincide. This song looks at the desires we should have.
