Every Good Gift - Instrumental
Recently my brother asked me if I would have time to put together a short
instrumental piece for him to use as the introductory music in his sermon broadcasts
from his church. He wanted something that would be about a minute long, that he could
have playing in the background of a "voice over" introducing the church/pastor.
So I played around with that a couple nights ago, and came up with this. Every Good Gift.
It's just a little bit of piano, guitar, and a few violin parts. I haven't done a lot of work mixing it, and I don't
even know that my brother will want to use it - I may go back to the drawing board and try something
completely different.
The instrumental comes from a song I wrote last year, based on the passage in the book of James that
talks about every good gift coming down from the "Father Of Lights". The words to the song are below.
Every Good Gift
Let peace and joy fall on us
Like rain falls on parched and dry land
Let God's wisdom fall on us
Received from His gracious hand
Every good gift, every perfect gift
Comes down from the Father Of Lights
Every good gift, every perfect gift
Comes down from the Father Of Lights
Let God's riches fall on us
In the midst of our poverty
Let righteousness fall on us
As blood falling from Christ's own wounds
Every good gift, every perfect gift
Comes down from the Father Of Lights
Every good gift, every perfect gift
Comes down from the Father Of Lights
If you're listening to this and thinking "There's something slightly odd or
'off-kilter' about this," there's a good reason for that. The song is in 5/4 time - a
quarter note gets a beat, and there are five beats to a measure. It's not a commonly
used time signature.
